- Creating outlines using vector illustrations, as this proved to work well across existing children's branding and also within their existing apps.
- Using icons which are universal, that everyone can understand, helps the app to possibly be distributed worldwide, rather than using words or text.
- It also makes it more fun and enjoyable, rather than having typeface, it adds a sense of friendliness and approachability.
- Although some may see the icons as quite abstract, from research it was found that children like a challenge and unlike adults, don't mind having trouble navigating around, in fact they enjoy finding new things out and how the software works.
- Therefore the icons and the software in general doesn't need to be point blank obvious, as efficiency isn't a key theme when design UI design for children.
- One issue is whether to use outlines or negative space. The negative space looks more child friendly, but it may take away from the design of the vector illustrations.
- Feedback came back that the outlines work better, as it makes the designs clearer.
- Also feedback came back that the designs work well for the target audience as they are universally recognisable, and still have a younger, immature feel to them whilst still not being too patronising.
- The outlines are much more easy to understand and clearer.
