An initial idea focused on using vector, line illustrations, looking at the different shapes and outcomes of superhero masks. The designs of each of the different masks created range of interesting silhouettes, as well as outlines.
Further experiments with creating more abstract patterns, overlays and interesting line drawings with the different shaped masks, using just purely outlines, as well as full block colour silhouette vectors. Also beginning to test out different colours, mainly focusing on vibrant primary and tertiary colours due to the target audience of schools and children, these were deemed the most appropriate colours to use with full saturation.
Developing this idea further, taking the different coloured outlines to begin to create a range of layouts and patterns, again using vector illustrations for the clearest design, it also allows the design to be easily manipulated at different sizes if needed. The below designs would initially be used for the creation of posters or backgrounds for the campaign and then the individual elements could be taken out from it, creating cohesive designs. However feedback did suggest that without the eye holes within the masks, from a distance it wasn't fully clear what the designs and illustrations were.
Further developments beginning to introduce different background colours and experimenting with colour schemes, the design below shows how the purple works successfully, each of the corresponding colours show up, as well as the colour scheme being cohesive together. Also the yellow is working successfully, it makes the other colours used within the design stand out against the background and design. Although these designs were working well, they didn't have the potential to be developed further, therefore a different approach was decided to be taken.
Below shows developments, beginning to incorporate the eye holes into the masks, so the designs were more explicit in what they were showing. Still keeping with the approach of using vector, line illustrations with the introduction and experimentation of text, showing the skills needed for creativity in terms of 'superpowers' with each relating to a different mask and colour. Feedback suggested the designs were quite simple, therefore further development was carried out.
