Research Presentation: Feedback
- Critically engage with the research.
- If things already exist like forest schools, activities in museum etc. what else is there to do to help that hasn't already been done, reasons for doing it.
- Maybe taking technology and accepting that it isn't going away, and maybe use it to encourage people to go outside.
- Pokemon Go
- Making tactile/outside learning a part of the app.
- A mixture of both technology and hands on learning.
- Acknowledging technology exists and think about how to use it to make children interact with each other and the outside world.
- Why is this happening?
- What's missing?
- Primary Research
- What parents and teachers would engage with the most.
- What children would engage with.
- What will they respond to.
- What these existing apps and other engaging activities are missing.
- Museums and galleries, the issue is getting people there.
- Something which exists at school or at home, as people are already there.
- Interactive bucket-list app, multiplayer, can compete with others.
- Both something that is independent and with other people.
- Look at teacher/parent forums online for primary research.

Micro Genre - Initial Ideas
- Create/design a tote bag.
- Use sewing techniques, to reference to cotton trade.
- Using the words/strong typography, representing the lasting impression that slavery has on American culture.
- Another idea is to design a bag which represents what America has and what Africa could/should have had.
- One side the commodities America is most famous for.
- The other side the bag is empty, what America and Europe left Africa with
- Critique vs celebration.
- Screen print the design onto the tote bag/ then sew parts over the top.
- Use batik printing on the tote bag, as this is what they use in Africa on the patterns of their clothes.
- Represents how slavery made Africans lose their sense of identity, and how gospel music was a way in which they tried to bring it back into American culture and combine the two.
- Using the Antrik symbols, to show the hidden messages of their meetings and also represent the fact that slaves couldn't read or write, which is also why they copied the christian songs.
- They used lyrics of songs to say hidden, secret messages to each other.
- One side using hidden symbols and based around African culture, the other side showing how Americans Americanised africans.
- Creating/designing tobacco packaging.
- Contrasting the taboo of smoking with the taboo of slavery.
- Use the African flags of countries within the design to represent where the slaves were taken from and how they lost their identities.
- Research into the materials that can be taken in Africa.
- Represents how Europe and America underdeveloped Africa and how that they could have these commodities if slavery had never happened.
- Use printing methods used in Africa on the packaging.
- Image of tobacco packaging on a piece of cotton to create a flag.
- Map of the tobacco plantations.
- Using colours taken from African culture, particularly west Africa.
- Research American brands of tobacco.
- Rebrand the tobacco as African using colours and design taken from their culture.
- Ceramic packaging?
- Design/create a garment or piece of clothing which critiques or celebrates the origins of traditional black gospel music.
- Using batik printing, traditional printing technique used inAfrica within their own clothes and textile industry.
- Using natural dyes to create colour in the garment.
- Using the words which have been taken from Africa and are now part of American culture.
- Using the antrik symbols to make a more abstract design and representing how the slaves couldn't read or write and making the design purely visual.
- Create a pattern which represents a graph or symbols showing the numbers and statistics of the trans Atlantic slave trade.
Event Company Branding: Development 2
- Developments created from feedback from the client, using muted pastels and continuing the design of the moon theme as this fits within her brand much more than the previous concepts of designs. Using a range of pastel shades, taken from the watercolours and inspiration from previous designs found during the visual research stage.
- Adding text also, experimenting with both sans serif and serif, Bodoni and more handwritten style fonts, to see which works best alongside the design and colours or even if they work well together side by side.
- The client was very pleased with the front of the business cards of the design and the versatility and possibility of transferring these to other collateral and also holds a strong presence as a logo.
- Favourites consisted of the back of the card, using the more abstract watercolours rather than the repetition of the moons. Also as stated in previous feedback, the client liked how the black looked and contrasted against the designs, it also made the brand seem more contemporary and unique.
- Experimenting with white and black, as previous feedback had discussed, developing with these colours further. The white is too bland, the black was favoured, but the client also liked the muted pastel colours used for the background as it represents the relaxed and laidback vibe of the brand.
- The muted pastels make the brand seem more approachable, whereas the black stand out a lot more and may bring the brand more attention as it stands out from other designs which are similar to the other pastel coloured design choices.
- The back of the business cards has been changed and developed due o feedback, saying that the client wanted the watercolour and the back of the design to look more abstract, to contrast against the more structured and sharp shapes of the moon shapes on the front of the card.
- Next steps are to mock up the chosen favourites of these developments to begin to see what the colours, size and format would look like in real life when printed. After this there will be a better idea of what works well and what needs to be improved. Once this has happened the design, colours and logos used here can begin to be placed onto other collateral and worked into both physical and digital designs..

Event Company Branding: Development 1
- Development of the moon concept and logo design, incorporating bold black lines to add a unique touch and more contemporary feel to the design.
- Also looking at different arrangements and layouts of the symbols to see which looks more cohesive as a single logo as a whole.
- Experimenting with black and white, contrasting each other, creating a bolder design. Looking at possible sticker designs or circular logo designs.
Feedback
- The moon layout in the bigger to smaller, the stages of the moon changing was liked the most, as this was the most pleasing to the eye and represented the brand best.
- Move away from the bold outline of circles, looks too harsh against the soft pastels of the designs.
- The client liked the full black circles contrasted against the pastels as it was different and represented the many different personalities of the client and the brand itself.
- Represents how versatile the brand is.
- It's also very striking and stands out against existing designs and competitors.
- Further developments and experimentations:
- Try out a simpler rectangular business card design as it looks more classy and professional.
- The circles could work well as stickers or other logos on other collateral.
- Experiment more with the black contrasting against the pastels.
- Try out other softer colours as backgrounds against the moon logos.
Event Company Branding: Feedback
- The black and white solid colours, used in the designs are too stark and severe, needs to have a more relaxed vibe, the colours are too contrasting, makes the design look too corporate.
- On the business cards use the full name, but this can be sorted at a later date, just keep developing designs first.
- Move away from the idea of the buildings and silhouette as the company is no longer corporate based.
- The designs with the circles on a black background were a favourite, but not the black and white circles.
- Also the designs using the outline of circles wasn't preferred as it was pointed out it looked too much like other existing brands such as Audi or the Olympics, therefore using only full blocks of colour of circle, rather than the rings.
- The black with the pastel circles gives it a quirky, original vibe which was what was stated in the original brief.
- The moon concept was liked and has the go ahead to be developed and experimented with further.
- The name of the brand may change, however the designs will still fit with whatever the brand name will be, therefore this can be changed at a later date.
- The typefaces were stated to all work well, just keep experimenting with the different themes and style together.
- New names for the brand consist of Lunar, Eclipse and Phase Moon, this will be confirmed at a later date.
- The muted pastels are preferred the others seem to bright, but they may look different when printed.
- The moon shapes maybe try as letters or incorporate letters somehow.
- Try black and white, just black and just white, white with muted pastels, try with the brighter pastels.
- Move away from the circular business cards.
- Prefer rectangular shaped business card.
- Structured vs Abstract
- The black circles would work well as stickers.
- Move away from the black rings and circles with outlines.
- Continue to develop with both the muted and brighter pastels.
- Use full name on business card, Felicitie Olivia Bulless
