One idea was taken from the quote in the text 'To five little stone lozenges, each about a foot and a half long, which were arranged in a neat row beside their grave, and were sacred to the memory of five little brothers of mine'. Taking this imagery the type has been set into five columns to represent the five brothers. They are long and thin to represent the size of them being a 'foot and a half long' The use of hyphens to show broken up text represent a broken family. The tracking was changed to make sure the type was all level and on a baseline.
This idea takes a more literal approach forming the type into a shape of a tombstone. Using helvetica to contradict the usual serif, mundane, serious typefaces normally seen on tombstones. The one thing that didn't work was the text at the type, the type wouldn't set to be left aligned rather than centre aligned.
These two type settings, both above and below deem to personify and add character to the descriptive words used to describe his parents. Which brings the type to life, adding another dimension. Below the type has been used as negative space to bring more attention to the descriptive passages.
This form of typesetting is supposed to be using rivers intentionally within the type. Which is take from the passage within the text describing the landscape within the text.
