Feedback 03

Feedback received on the final outcome was very well received, however there were conflicting ideas and design decisions that were said to be looked and or what the design communicated well.

When asked who the publication was aimed at, who the target audience was feedback was very positive with the majority saying young adults, students and those interested in underground hip hop music therefore the design is successful within this area and the audiences' take on the design. Therefore the design has successfully communicated to the correct target audience and the design decisions are all well thought out in order to have done this.

When asked about the use of purely type within the design and if this works well to communicate the idea and concept, there were mixed reviews. A handful of reviews were that the design needed images and pictures to make it more engaging and that the specific target audience may find it too dry. However in terms of communicating the concept there were some very positive feedback reviews saying the use of type works well, and means the content is condensed down to the most important and therefore is better and easier for the target audience to concentrate on and read. It was also successful in terms of communicating the idea of rapping and lyrics through the use of just type many said that this was interesting, unique and edgy which again communicates to the target audience. Also the use of the black letter contrasting the serif type as it communicates the feel and style, history of underground hip hop.

The final question was about the stock and binding and how this communicates the concept, the use of cheaper production techniques was deemed to be very successful, and the stock used relates to the edgy look and style of hip hop. Positive feedback also said that it really creates a certain aesthetic to the piece, which is pleasing to the target audience and the content. The cheap and 'slapdash' production of the book was considered to be appropriate and the imperfect design and production adds to the concept even further. Some feedback said to try stitching rather than staples as this made the publication look 'cheap'.

Reflecting on the feedback, although the improvements and different ideas which were suggested although the design could be designed in these different ways, the positive feedback reinforced that the concept is strong and works and therefore including imagery and photographs won't be appropriate for the design. Again with the idea of stitching rather than stales, the design is supposed to look cheap ad considered and experiments with stitching has shown that it isn't very efficient or cheap and therefore the staples is perfect for the concept.
