Design Development 2

After speaking with the client they stated they wanted to see a more modernised, commercialised approach, using more white space and column text, a more practical approach. Although this design seems to be aesthetically pleasing, it is just like everything else that is out there and doesn't represent the ambitions and drives of the independent artists and what they stand for, in fact it goes against this by conforming to set design rules and taking inspiration from existing magazines. The artists are fresh and innovative and this design seems to be profitable and it sits alongside those commercial artists out there and the audience that are interested in this music are also against this commercialisation.
What comes with this is the idea of class and accessibility the fact that something of this level of design seems to privileged and only understood on the level of designers, whereas zines are much more personal and are available to everyone.
The typefaces have been developed and changed, Harbour and Helvetica Condensed, harbour works well to communicate the content and the idea of hip hop, as it hints back to graffiti style. The layout is much more clean cut, using more white space and column grids, which looks a lot more modern. The design however doesn't work and it is too similar to what is already out there.
Limitations of this design is one, the colour issue again which will make printing and production much more expensive, the photographs also take away from the type and message that the piece is communicating and two, this design doesn't really have a strong structure and doesn't really represent the personalities and lyrics of the artists.
